THE FAQ’S
Naturopathic medicine is a form of primary health care that focuses on treating the root cause of disease rather than just managing symptoms. It prioritizes the least invasive treatments, starting with dietary and lifestyle changes before considering more intensive options like pharmaceuticals. This approach supports the body's natural ability to heal, aiming to remove obstacles to cure and strengthen weakened systems to promote recovery. Naturopathic doctors take a holistic view of health, recognizing that physical, emotional, and mental well-being all play a role in achieving optimal wellness.
WHAT IS NATUROPATHIC MEDICINE?
Naturopathic care offers many benefits, especially given the long wait times in Canada’s current medical system. As highly trained, evidence-based primary care providers, we use a wide range of therapies to help patients achieve their health goals, including acupuncture, herbal medicine, nutraceuticals, intravenous therapy, pharmaceuticals, and lifestyle counselling. We also have access to laboratory testing through LifeLabs and other private medical labs across North America and internationally. One of the greatest advantages of naturopathic care is the time we take to understand a patient’s full health history and goals, allowing us to provide comprehensive, personalized support.
WHAT ARE THE ADVANTAGES OF NATUROPATHIC CARE?
CAN NATUROPATHIC DOCTORS ORDER LAB TESTS?
Yes, NDs can order bloodwork through LifeLabs but the cost is not covered by MSP so patients have to pay out of pocket. We also have access to a variety of private laboratory testing, including hormone panels, microbiome testing and food sensitivity testing.
WILL INSURANCE COVER MY VISIT?
Yes, most extended healthcare insurance plans cover all or a percentage of naturopathic visits. Lab testing and supplements are typically not covered but each plan is different so please check with your provider if you are unsure. Each of the clinics I work at offer direct billing for most insurance companies.
Each patient’s healing journey is extremely individual and it depends on what the nature of your concern is, as well as other factors such as the severity of the concern, how long it’s been present for, and commitment to dietary and lifestyle changes. A patient’s support system and mental/ emotional well-being also plays a significant role. Typically, it takes patients 3-4 appointments to notice a significant improvement in symptoms.
HOW MANY VISITS WILL I NEED TO RESOLVE MY ISSUE?
DO I NEED TO PREPARE ANYTHING FOR MY FIRST VISIT?
Yes, please fill out the intake form at least 2 days prior to your first visit and review and sign the consent form. This allows me to have a complete understanding of your health history and prepare accordingly. If you’ve had any recent bloodwork, imaging or other diagnostic testing, please send a copy to the office or bring it to your appointment. If you are taking any medications or supplements, please bring the bottles or a list of what you take, noting the dose, frequency and duration of use, as well as the brand if applicable.
